A useful viewing trip leaves time to understand the street as well as the apartment. Start with a small shortlist, confirm each appointment and group visits geographically. Moving between distant parts of Istanbul can consume time you expected to spend viewing homes.
Before you book appointments
Send your preferred dates, budget range and essential requirements. Ask for the exact address, unit type, current availability and the name of the person meeting you. Confirm whether the apartment you will enter is the actual available unit or a show apartment.
Request the floor plan and current photographs in advance. Eliminate options that fail essential requirements, such as lift access, bedroom count or a workable commute. Keep one reserve appointment rather than filling every hour.
A sample two-day structure
This is a planning example, not an appointment schedule or a promise about travel times.
- First morning: view two shortlisted apartments in one area, allowing time between them for notes.
- First afternoon: walk the surrounding streets, locate everyday shops and try a journey relevant to your routine.
- Second morning: visit a second area or return to the strongest option with follow-up questions.
- Second afternoon: compare your notes, request missing information and leave time for delays.
Check routes shortly before travelling
Use Metro Istanbul’s official network maps and Şehir Hatları ferry timetables when planning routes. Check current services and allow for the walk between the apartment, station or pier. A station name alone does not establish door-to-door convenience.
Use the same notes for every apartment
Record the address, unit number, stated area, floor, light, noise, building access and any questions left unanswered. Ask permission before taking photographs. Keep the quoted price and what it includes in writing, dated to the viewing.
After each visit, write down one advantage, one concern and the information you still need. This makes comparisons more reliable than recalling the most impressive room at the end of a long day.
